Ever since our initial efforts set aside the current Nature Center land as a preserve, we have been ceaseless in our efforts to preserve open spaces and areas for wildlife. We will use this page to present preservation efforts in the Bergen County area, and raise specific issues as well as suggest ways you can help.

Garter snakes are a gardener’s friend! Harmless to humans, they eat the pests that wreak havoc in your garden. There are many types of garter snakes found all across North America, including the Demarest Nature Center.
